Batch find & replace that cuts through 100,000 files
Content and filename replacements in one pipeline. Snapshot rollback before every write. Encoding-safe output — UTF-8, GBK and Latin-1 come out exactly as they went in. A Rust engine does the heavy lifting, and your files never leave your machine.
Everything a bulk replace tool should have done years ago
TextScalpel is built for developers and content creators who need to change thousands of files without holding their breath. Fast where it counts, careful where it matters.
Content + filename replace
Both in one pipeline. Mix text and filename rules in a single pass — one run, one snapshot, one undo.
Rule pipelines
Plain-text or regex rules you can toggle and reorder. Every rule shows its live hit count before anything is written.
Snapshot & rollback
Every write is snapshotted first (content-addressed, deduplicated). One click rolls an operation back — even after a crash.
Rust-powered speed
Parallel scan and match across 100,000 files. 10k files in under 2s on NVMe. Cancel anytime — and it actually stops.
Encoding-safe writes
Detects UTF-8 / GBK / Latin-1 and writes back in the same encoding. CRLF/LF preserved per file. Zero surprise diffs.
.gitignore aware
Directory scans respect .gitignore and skip symlinks. Include/exclude globs, size caps and a binary sniff keep the noise out.
Shareable presets
Save a rule pipeline as a single versioned JSON file and hand it to a teammate. They load it, they run it.
Portable mode
Drop a portable.flag next to the exe and it runs green — settings, presets and snapshots live in the app folder.
中文 / English · light & dark
Full bilingual UI with light and dark themes, plus crash-log export when something goes wrong.
Downloads
Installers for all three desktop platforms, each with its own versioned release history and a stable "latest" link. TextScalpel is in development — these cards go live when the first release ships.
Permanent latest links (stable URLs for scripts, emails and winget-style installers):
/api/downloads/latest?slug=textscalpel&platform=windows
/api/downloads/latest?slug=textscalpel&platform=macos
/api/downloads/latest?slug=textscalpel&platform=linux
— each redirects to that platform's newest stable build. Update checks:

Questions, answered
What is TextScalpel?
A batch find & replace tool for huge codebases and content sets: search and replace across thousands of files at once — in file contents and file names — with rule pipelines, live previews and a snapshot before every write so you can always roll back.
When does it ship?
It's in active development right now. Hit “Notify me at launch” above and you'll hear the moment the first release — and its 30-day trial — goes live.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows 10+, macOS and Linux — each with its own installer, versioned release history and a permanent "latest" download link. One license works on all of them (2 machines per key).
Will it touch binary files like PDF, Word or Excel?
No. TextScalpel handles text files only — binary files are sniffed (NUL-byte check) and skipped. That's a deliberate scope choice; it's what keeps the tool fast and safe.
Do my files leave my machine?
Never. Scanning, matching, replacement and snapshots are all local. The only network calls are starting the trial and activating your license — once each. After activation it runs fully offline.
How does licensing work?
$19 one-time. You get a license key that activates to a signed license file on your machine (2 machines per key). After that, no internet is required — ever. The trial runs 30 days.
What if it's not for me?
30-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked — payments are handled by Creem, our merchant of record.
