Put your documents on a diet.
DocDiet shrinks .docx, .xlsx and .pptx files on your own machine — oversized images, hidden metadata and ZIP bloat are trimmed, while the document's XML is left untouched, so files still open in Office and WPS. Drop a folder, pick a profile, done.
Smaller files, without the breakage
Most "compressors" rebuild the document and hope it still opens. DocDiet does the opposite: it touches only what is safe to touch, and proves what it saved.
The XML stays untouched
Only images, embedded objects, metadata and the ZIP container are rewritten — never the document's XML structure. That's why the output still opens cleanly in Office 2016–365, WPS and Google Docs exports.
See exactly what shrank
Every file gets a before/after size and a savings percentage. Open “Details” and DocDiet breaks it down part by part — which images, fonts and metadata were costing you the most.
Whole folders, one drop
Drop a folder and DocDiet scans it recursively for the three Office formats. One damaged file never fails the batch — failures are isolated and reported at the end.
Never overwrites
By default the slim copy is written next to the original as name.slim.docx. Prefer to
replace? Turn it on in Settings and the original goes to the recycle bin — not into the void.
100% offline
Your documents never leave your machine — no upload, no account, no cloud. The only network calls are starting the trial and activating your license.
Three profiles, one obvious default
Start on Balanced. Reach for Aggressive when a file has to fit through an email limit. Open Custom when you want to decide pixel by pixel.
Balanced Default
Images slightly reduced, files clearly smaller. The setting to leave in place.
- Resize above 1920×1080
- JPEG quality 80 · PNG depth 8
- Strip metadata
Aggressive
Maximum savings for the file that simply must fit under the limit.
- Stronger resize + lower quality
- Convert PNG→JPEG where safe
- Flatten embedded objects
Custom
Full control for the 5% who want to see every number.
- Resolution cap / JPEG quality
- JPEG conversion on/off
- Font subsetting · ZIP backend
Three clicks, start to finish
Drop files or folders
DocDiet recognises .docx/.xlsx/.pptx automatically and ignores everything else with a friendly count.
Pick a profile & go
Balanced is preselected. Hit Start and watch per-file progress through scan → image → repack.
Read the report
Success / failed / skipped, total saved, and one button to open the output folder. Retry just the failures.

Questions, answered
Which formats can DocDiet shrink?
Microsoft Office Open XML files: .docx, .xlsx and .pptx. Anything else — including older .doc/.xls/.ppt and binary files — is recognised and skipped with a clear count. PDF and standalone images are planned for a later version.
Will compression break my document?
No. DocDiet never rebuilds the document's XML — it only rewrites images, embedded objects, metadata and
the ZIP container. Output is tested against Office 2016–365 and WPS. And because it writes a
.slim copy by default, your original is always there to fall back on.
Does it upload my files anywhere?
Never. Everything runs locally in a Rust engine on your machine. DocDiet connects to the network only to start the trial and to activate your license — once each. After that it works fully offline.
Can I compress a whole folder at once?
Yes. Drop a folder and DocDiet scans it recursively for the three Office formats. A single broken file won't stop the batch; you get a grouped report (success / failed / skipped) and a one-click retry for anything that failed.
How does licensing work?
$25 one-time. You get a license key that activates to a signed license file on your machine (2 machines per key). No subscription, no cloud account — and it keeps working offline.
When can I download it?
DocDiet is in the final stretch of development. Installers for Windows, macOS and Linux will land in the Downloads section at launch. You can already reserve your license at the price above.
